NASM One Presents: Fueling the Change: Evidence-Based Nutrition Strategies for Your Menopausal Clients! With Host Kat Barefield, MS, RDN

About this event

As a fitness professional, understanding hormonal and metabolic changes is key to supporting your clients during and after the menopause transition.

In this 50-minute evidence-based webinar, NASM Master Instructor and Registered Dietitian Kat Barefield breaks down how hormonal changes impact physiological symptoms, body composition, bone health, and fat-storage patterns. More importantly, you’ll learn practical nutrition strategies grounded in current national guidelines and peer-reviewed research that you can apply immediately in your sessions.

Learning Objectives

By the end of this webinar, you’ll be able to:

  1. Explain the hormonal and metabolic mechanisms of perimenopause and menopause — including estrogen-driven changes in body composition, visceral fat redistribution, and bone density loss — and use this knowledge to reframe client expectations and set more effective goals
  2. Identify current evidence-based protein targets for peri- and postmenopausal women, including optimal daily intake, and how protein requirements increase during a caloric deficit to prevent lean mass loss during fat loss
  3. Describe why the scale is an unreliable progress metric for menopausal clients and articulate trainer-appropriate body composition assessment strategies that better reflect true health and physique progress
  4. Recognize the key dietary patterns, micronutrients, including calcium, vitamin D, and anti-inflammatory foods, that current guidelines support for preserving bone health, reducing cardiometabolic risk, and promoting healthy aging in this population
  5. Apply at least three practical, scope-of-practice-appropriate nutrition coaching strategies to use immediately with peri- and postmenopausal clients pursuing fat loss, body recomposition, and long-term musculoskeletal health.
